The Ambivalent West

It make no sense at all when it comes to democracy that The West, especially the US, advocate, regarding to the Palestinian issue. Isn't democracy is about the right to determine one's own choice of aspiracy that build a nation, and when it comes to one of main instrument of demoicracy, the election, it also means one's right to determine their own choice of political aspiration?

And in the Palestine case,it's the choice of Palestine people to choose the Hamas in a free, west sponsored election. Where's that respect for the choice, even if Hamas is said to be wanting Israel out of the world map, still it is a choice. The same West attitude ring true when we see how they fare with the result of election in Bolivia, Venezuela, Iran, Nicaragua.

But when it comes to Palestine, the West have even gone too far by letting one nation spilling other nation's people blood by the reason that should have been kept as Palestine's internal issue. How could someone be authorized to attack other country, let alone killing many innocent people, just because that someone disagree with one party's,which happens to rule through a fair procedure, political stance toward him??Not even the mighty People's Republic of China dare to attack Taiwan (or Chinese Taipeh as they been called in PRC) when full-independence-advocating-Chen Sui Bian raise as Taiwan's President, for, one of the reason, the US immediately throw it's warning against China's alleged agression.

So how come The West cockily, and bluntly hurt it's own so-called-pledge of democracy by issuing warnings such as suspension of humanitarian and financial aid for Palestine just because Hamas won the election. Not even the West put any consideration when Hamas clearly shows their will to be more pragmatics in issues regarding relation with Israel. What's the different of the situation with what happened when the Islamist AKP won secular Turkish election, what's the different with what happened when leftist Evo Morales won Bolivian election.

Where are West's respect of principles of democracy that they themselves declare and advocate??
